DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MANURE AND FERTILIZERS
Introduction
Manure refers to the natural substance that is obtained from the decomposition of the waste of plant and animals, which are used as sources of plant nutrients. Manure does not have a high content of nutrients. Instead, it gives fertility to the soil by adding humus. This improves the soil’s physical properties, with better retention of moisture and soil air. Manure is made up of organic materials so it does not have any form of pollution unlike fertilizers.
While fertilizers are the organic or inorganic materials that may be of natural or synthetic origin which supply certain nutrients; when are added to the soil. Fertilizers have great potential to increase the yield and respond very quickly than manures. However, fertilizers can also have a harmful effect on the environment. They contain synthetic chemicals that are not biodegradable. They can cause both soil and water pollution.
KEY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MANURES & FERTILIZERS
MANURES | FERTILIZERS |
Manures are the natural substances obtained from plant and animal wastes, which are used as sources of plant nutrients. | Fertilizers are organic or inorganic substances, either of natural or synthetic origin which supplies certain nutrients for plant growth. |
Comparatively less rich in plant nutrients. | Rich in plant nutrients |
Required in large quantities. | Comparatively less quantity required than manures. |
They improve soil physical properties like structure, water holding capacity etc. | Generally fertilizers have no such effects. |
Manure provides a lot of humus to the soil. | Fertilizer does not provide any humus to the soil. |
They are prepared in the fields. | They are prepared in factories. |
Slowly absorbed by plants, but long lasting. | They are easily absorbed by plants. |
Manures have no side effects. | It causes harm to the living organism present in the soil, harmful impact on soil quality and environment. |
