MEASURING INSTRUMENT USED IN AGRICULTURE
Introduction
There are various instruments which are used for measuring different parameters in agriculture. Modern agriculture utilizes more instruments to gauge different parameters in order to ensure optimum yield from crops.
Here, various measuring instruments used in agriculture with their uses are given as per alphabetical order.
INSTRUMENTS USES Altimeter Measurement of altitude/height, the distance of a point above sea level. Aneroid barometer Measurement of atmospheric pressure/air pressure. Anemometer Measurement of wind speed/wind pressure. Atmometer Measurement of leaf temperature or used for measuring the rate of water evaporation from a wet surface to the atmosphere. Auxanometer/ Crescograph Measurement of growth of plant. Barograph Measurement of continuous atmospheric pressure. Cryometer Measurement of very low temperature of objects. Campbell stokes recorder Measurement of sunshine duration. Drosometer Measurement the quantity of dew formed in a unit of time per unit area of surface. Hygrometer/psychrometer Measurement of relative humidity. Evaporimeter/Lysimeter Measurement of evapotranspiration. Heliograph Measurement of duration of bright sunshine hours. Hydrometer Relative density of liquids. Infra-red thermometer Measurement of canopy temperature. Irrometer Measurement of actual soil water tension/potential. Infiltrometer Measurement of water infiltration into soil. Lactometer Test the purity of milk, used in measuring the volume of cream in sample milk and probable amount of water if any added to it. Pycnometer Measure density of liquids. Measurement of soil specific gravity. Pyrheliometer Measurement of direct solar radiation. Pyradiometer Measurement of both solar and terrestrial radiation. Quantum sensor Measurement of PAR (Photosynthetically Active Radiation). Psychrometer Measurement of leaf water potential/RH. Penetrometer Measurement of soil strength. Porometer Measurement of transpiration rate. Pyranometer Measurement of total incoming solar radiation. Piezometer Measurement of depth of water table, hydrostatic pressure of ground water. Pluviometer Measurement of rainfall. Pyrgeometer Measurement of infrared radiation spectrum in the atmosphere. Thermograph Measurement of continuous measuring temperature.
Spectrophotometer Measurement of wavelength of light. Rain gauge Measurement of amount of rainfall. Tensiometer Soil moisture tension. Wind vane Measurement of wind direction.
