WHAT IS PROCESS OF COMMUNICATION
INTRODUCTION
Communication is derived from Latin word “communicare” meaning “to share”. It is the process of sharing of ideas or feelings or meanings through a mutual understanding.
Communication establishes commonness between sender and receiver of the message through the mutually understand sign and/or symbols. Therefore it is a two way process. Communication methods are very important in agriculture extension services.
KEY ELEMENTS OF COMMUNICATION
- Sender– who transmits or sends the message.
- Message – It is the content, the sender wants to convey to the receiver. It can be verbal or non-verbal.
- Message encoding – The message generated by the sender is encoded symbolically such as in the form of digital data, written text, speech, pictures, gestures etc. before it is being conveyed.
- Communication medium/channel – It is the medium through which targeted message is transmitted from sender to receiver such as television, telephones, computer, apps etc.
- Decoding – (of the reassembled encoded message) it is the process of converting the symbols encoded by the sender. It simply means get the meaning of message.
- Receiver- It is the person or group for which message is transmitted. He may be a listener, a reader or a viewer. It is the most important element because every element is directed towards receiver. Once the receiver receives the message and understands it in proper way that was meant for, only then the purpose of communication is successful.
- Receiver’s response/feedback- It is the final element of the communication process and ultimate aspect too. Feedback is necessary to ensure whether the message has been effectively encoded, sent, decoded and comprehended or not. Depending on feedback, the sender can analyze the message ahead. Feedback may be negative or positive.
Noise- It refers to any impediment like bad telephone connection, faulty encoding or decoding, poor understanding of message that is caused by the sender, message or receiver during the process of communication.
